2003 International AIDS Candlelight Memorial in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria.
AFRYDEF joined the Global Health Council as an organizational member in 2003 and started coordinating the local observance of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial in Imo State, Nigeria the same year.
This year, the event was organized at the Ohaji District Headquarters, Umuokanne in Ohaji with the support of the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Council and the Consolidated Breweries PLC, Owerri Plant.
Special remarks were made at the event by community leaders in the Local Government Area, who also renewed their commitment to the fight against the epidemic, which they acknowledge has become a common disease in their localities.
The audience was “edutained” by popular artistes in the area led by King Hip Hop, Dancorico and Nekky, who used their musical talents to entertain as well as educate young people about the dangers of the virus.
The high point of the year’s anniversary was the decoration of Chief Luke Chukwu, the Executive Chairman of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area as a Fellow of African Youths by AFRYDEF.
