AFRYDEF celebrates 2009
Candlelight Memorial in grande
style!
This year, the African Youth
Development Foundation (AFRYDEF)
has concluded plans to make the
2009 International AIDS
Candlelight Memorial the best
since 2003 it started organizing
the local observance of the
memorial in
Imo State
,
Nigeria
.
The Candlelight Memorial is
the largest annual grassroots
movement against the spread of
HIV/AIDS. It is being
coordinated by the Global Health
Council (www.globalhealth.org),
an international organization
based in
USA
.
This year’s theme: "Together, We Are the Solution!" is meant to reflect the
Candlelight Memorial's mission
to promote both global
solidarity and resolution to end
HIV/AIDS, and that only when we
work in partnership together can
we see change.
This partnership begins with
you. You are a critical
stakeholder in this HIV/AIDS
issue, no matter where you may
be!
This year’s Memorial will
take place worldwide on Sunday,
May 17, 2009. In Owerri,
Imo
State
, it will be observed at the
FSP
Park
,
Wetheral Road
,
Owerri,
Imo State
,
Nigeria
.
The Executive Governor of
Imo
State
,
His Excellency, Chief Ikedi
Ohakim is expected to be the
Special Guest of Honour.
The climax of the occasion
shall be the decoration of Her
Excellency, Lady Ada Okwuonu,
the Deputy Governor of
Imo
State
as the “Mother of African Youths”.
Other prominent philanthropists,
social activists and leaders in
Nigeria
shall
also be recognized with various
awards.
Another important event
scheduled to mark the 2009
International AIDS Candlelight
Memorial is the official opening
of the AFRYDEF’s Multi-purpose
HIV/AIDS Resource Center in
Owerri,
Imo
State
by the Executive Governor of the
State.
