WANEP Nigeria National Consultation Meeting in Abuja.

As one of the key stakeholders of Nigeria’s peace building and human rights organizations, AFRYDEF was invited to the National Consultation on Peace building organized by the West Africa Network for Peace building (WANEP) at Abuja in April, 2002.

The consultation generated shared analysis and understanding of the complex web of conflicts in Nigeria and the political incongruities that leads to democratic instability and violence in the country.

The consultation equally recognized the structural factors that give rise to democratic instabilities in Nigeria and thereafter developed short and long-term intervention programs.

These programs were jointly implemented by members of WANEP/Nigeria with the support of other civil society and government stakeholders, which led to peaceful and successful 2003 and 2007 General Elections in Nigeria.

Since then, AFRYDEF has continued to play active roles in monitoring conflicts in the Southeast region as well as intervening in both political and humanitarian crisis situations.
