Sustainable Economic Development Workshop for Nigerian Youths.

With the support of the City Nursing Services, USA, the African Youth Development Foundation (AFRYDEF) organized a National Youth Summit for Nigerian youths in Owerri, Imo State on August 07, 2008 at the FSP Park, Wetheral Road, Owerri, Imo State.

Among others, the forum provided an avenue for the youths to be exposed to the entrepreneurship and investment opportunities available to them in both government and private sector establishments. They were also introduced to skills that will enable them invest in agriculture and small scale businesses, such as piggery, poultry, cassava farming, pineapple farming, oil palm plantation, etc in order to improve their economic statuses.

Eminent speakers and Resource persons were selected from government, civil society and private sector establishments to speak on the various development topics, and they included:

● “Engaging unemployed Youths in Productive Ventures” by Adebowale Ologbenla, Imo State State Coordinator, National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

● “Involving youths and youth-led organizations in facilitating Rural Development projects: How do we get started?” by Paulinus C. Nnaji, Imo State Coordinator, National Poverty Eradication Program (NAPEP).

● “Mobilizing young people towards reducing the impacts of the Global Food Crisis in Nigeria” by Sir Ozonwa C. Kamalu Eliogu, President/Commander-in-Chief of the Agrarian Land Armies.

● “Exposing the evil effects of Cultism and the negative impacts of Gangsterism in the development of young people” by Deacon Dominic O. Nwogwugwu, Vice Principal, Bethel Seminary, Nekede, Imo State.

The high point of the National Workshop which was chaired by Chief Luke Chukwu, former Ohaji/Egbema Council boss was the conferment of awards to prominent nationalists, Philanthropists and business leaders in the country, including His Excellency, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Governor of Imo State; Mr. Mike Okiro, Inspector-General of Police; Chief Uma Ikeogu Imo, President/CEO of City Nursing Services, USA, the sponsors of the event among others.
